Best Bars In Brighton

The rumours are true, the English do love a drink! Brighton is one of the most vibrant and diverse party places in the UK and whether you're looking for a romantic evening or boozy night out with your friends, the options are limitless. During my time here, I got to try a couple of places and here’s my final verdict regarding the best bars in Brighton.

The Joker

The Joker was voted the best pub in East Sussex 2022, The Joker offers elaborate cocktails in their stylish yet cosy lounge. They also serve food, the kitchen being run by Lost Boys Chicken, multi-awards winning burgers and chicken eats. This place is perfect to bring a date or enjoy some delicious drinks with your friends.

Happy hour: The pub has great deals all week-round and offers a 15% discount on your student ID card.

Burnt Orange

Slightly more of a grown-up hangout spot, the Burnt Orange suggests an elegant selection of drinks. My personal favourite? Their Sparkling Sorbet with Blood Orange Gin, Lemon Cordial, Rhubarb, Prosecco and Raspberry Sorbet. Perfect if you’ve got a sweet tooth!

Already a part of the Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand 2022, Burnt Orange is both chic and relaxed offering the perfect atmosphere for a chill evening with your favourite people.

The King and Queen

Probably one of Brighton’s biggest pub houses, King and Queen holds a special place in my heart. Built-in 1779 as a Farmhouse and named in honour of King George III and Queen Charlotte, the principal bar, built in the style of a nobleman hall is flanked by a paved courtyard. This unique venue is pretty well known for its food and great ambience.

During my first year, my friends and I were loyal customers and attended karaoke nights religiously. This is actually the first pub I went to with my housemates when we first moved in and to this day, we still laugh about the sneaky reasons why my now bestie skipped this ice-breaker night…

Happy hour/Student night: the pub has student nights on Monday and Tuesday (karaoke night!) and offers plenty of student deals, including £2 shots and a £5 for 2 drinks formula.

Twisted Lemon

This hidden gem has the best staff and coolest cocktails! It’s small, super relaxed and lowkey. This is a must visit for any tequila lover as they have the best selection of tequila based cocktails!

They have a bigger venue a few blocks away called the Twisted Lime but I tend to enjoy this location more.

Flint House

Located in the heart of the Lanes, the posh Flint House is an excellent location for drinks. Their rooftop is small and intimate and their upstairs bar is simply gorgeous. This place is definitely on the more pricey side but totally worth it. The service is just as good as their drinks and it’s a great place to elevate your night without ending up at the expected Ivy.

The Signalman

If you’re interested in a more lowkey, authentic Brighton pub The Signalman is the place for you. In winter they lit the fireplace and in summer you get to enjoy the massive back garden.

Right by London Road train station, the pub is located in a residential area, putting the community at the centre of their interests. The pub often holds DIY events such as tote bag embroidery, plant pot painting as well as pub quizzes.

The Hobgoblin

The Hobgoblin is widely known as Brighton’s best student pub and best beer garden. They offer different student deals every day and is just opened Brighton’s newest escape room. This lively pub is fantastic to cool off after a long day at uni and party with your friends.

Happy hour: varies every day!

Revenge Rooftop Bar

Only open during the summertime, Revenge’s rooftop offers a mixture of classic and quirky beverages combined with a breathtaking panoramic view of Brighton’s iconic seafront and Palace Pier. The terrace is bright and colourful, creating a perfect holiday vibe for you to enjoy.

The White Rabbit

Located in Brighton’s colourful North Laine, The White Rabbit has a quirky and eccentric atmosphere, reflective of the town’s vibrant energy. Moreover, you can never spend a dull moment there as the pub hosts pub quizzes, open mics and other fun events weekly!

The Font

If you’re familiar with British drinking culture; think of slightly better Spoons with music and a place where “the banter flows as freely as the drinks.”

Happy hour: you can enjoy 2 for £11 cocktails Sunday - Thursday.
